Plant Selection for
Vertical Calming Walls
Moss can be encouraged to climb
stony outcroppings by
other bryophitic
plants such as lichens.
The lichens are the white crusty stuff on the rock

Simple Principles in constructing for Vertical Calming Walls

Natural Ecological Landscaped Walls are not suitable everywhere.  However, most regions can sustain living walls.  Living walls are most applicable when other kinds of walls are not suitable, do not mitigate enough noise and particulate matter, or/and there is a need for additional habitat creation.   Other considerations for walls next to or in dense, tall transportation corridors is shown on the following chart.
