Big boxes have not reached their total infrastructure potential. While malls are often seen as 'shopping centers' especially in place with inclement weather, no one has truly seen the true potential for bringing people, especially families together.
The Mexican/US Border is prime mega mall real estate for just such a concept like the Mall of America or the Mall of Canada. Instead of a horrid fence forever dividing the two countries, let's have a "Neutral Zone!" Are we not a global market? Do we not do a lot of business with Mexico and South America? Of course we do.
Picture this, dotted along the borders of Arizona, and Mexico, New Mexico and Mexico, and Texas and Mexico are places of resort hotels, indoor ice arenas, six flag like rides, shops and restaurants of both nations, plays, concerts, doctors offices for glasses, pharmacies, ERs, walk in clinics, etc. Add banquet halls, conference facilities, and lecture halls and you got not only a mall, but a vacation destination where it is NEUTRAL territory. You don't need a passport to enter from your side. You only need a passport to leave on the other side of the all into the other country.
Think of the loved ones that could get together from both sides of the border and celebrate holidays together for a weekend or an entire week. Think of those in desparate need of glasses, food, doctors near the border who can finally get some relief. Inside it is the Neutral Zone, and both countries benefit as well as it's people.
